Building Inspector II-Building Department

The City of Caldwell has an opening for a Building Inspector II in the Building Department. Individual under direct or general supervision, performs routine to complex inspections at various stages of construction, alterations, and repair of residential, commercial, and industrial building sites to ensure compliance with all adopted building, plumbing, mechanical, energy, accessibility, and electrical codes, and other governing codes, laws and ordinances; ensures conformance with approved plans, specifications, standards, permits, licensing, and safety standards; provides a variety of information to property owners, developers, architects, engineers, and contractors; performs commercial plan review as needed; performs other related duties, as assigned. Subject to background check & pre-employment drug screen.

Acceptable Experience and Training:

  • Graduation from High School or GED, supplemented by college level coursework or technical training construction technology, building inspection or a related field; and
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience inspecting residential, commercial, or industrial buildings or two (2) years’ experience as a Building Inspector II at the City of Caldwell. When filled from the outside, the employee is required to have three (3) years of experience.

A different, yet equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully carry out the requirements of the position may be considered. 

Required Special Qualifications:

  • Possession of a current and valid driver's license.
  • Possession of an ICC Residential Building Inspector certification.
  • Possession of an ICC Commercial Building Inspector certification.
  • Possession of an ICC Residential Mechanical Inspector certification.
  • Must obtain an ICC Commercial Plans Examiner certification within 24 months of hire.
