CHANGES TO CODE REGULATIONS
The Planning Division is diligently working to complete the 2nd round of proposed zoning code amendments. This package of amendments will primarily address updates to the landscaping ordinances, downtown ordinances, and mixed-use development ordinances, with minor amendments of other sections to provide more clarity and to allow for a more user-friendly code.
INSPECTION REQUESTS
Building Inspections: Inspection requests must be called in or scheduled online no later than 7:00 a.m. to be scheduled for inspection that same day. Building Inspection Request Line: (208) 455-4605 or Schedule Online Now.
Planning Inspections: Inspection requests for landscaping and public amenities must be scheduled online no later than 5:00 p.m. the day prior to requested inspection day. Bonds will not be released, and occupancy certificates will not be signed off until all landscaping and other required site improvements are complete, inspected, and approved. Schedule Online Now

About Us:
THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARMENT is responsible for all planning, zoning, building, code compliance, parking compliance, and community development block grant activities in Caldwell. Our department provides assistance in the planning and development of the built and natural environment in order to protect and preserve the quality of life, promote a sound economic base and appropriate design, and ensure safe construction, all through vision, partnerships, collaboration and purpose for the benefit of the community, citizens and visitors of Caldwell.
Planning & Zoning Division
The Planning & Zoning Division is responsible for implementing city policies that direct the current and future physical development of Caldwell. Planning & Zoning serves as the point of entry for development proposals and provides assistance in navigating the regulatory process. The division processes all development applications, business licenses, home occupation permits, temporary use permits, and oversees all design review and certificate of appropriateness approvals. Staff drafts new ordinances and prepares amendments to the existing development codes. Staff also maintains and implements the Comprehensive Plan, the City's long-range blueprint and policy document.
Building Safety Division
The Building Safety Division is responsible for the implementation, compliance and enforcement of City codes, ordinances and policies governing the construction, alteration, and maintenance of buildings and structures. This includes reviewing plans for compliance with all applicable and adopted codes, issuing building permits, and conducting inspections of the construction projects as they progress to ensure code standards are met and that the project is constructed in accordance with the approved plans. Code Compliance Division
The Code Compliance Division ensures compliance with the zoning ordinances, nuisance codes, occupational licensing codes and other codes that are related to private property usage and which address promoting health, safety, property preservation and maintenance, and community enhancement. Parking Compliance Division
The Parking Compliance Division is responsible for improving and maintaining the quality of life and environment of neighborhoods and streets by effectively enforcing the city's parking regulations. Learn more.
CDBG Block Grant Division
The CDBG Block Grant Division is responsible for overseeing the City of Caldwell's federal entitlement grants as well as other affordable housing and community development programs and initiatives. The division work is guided by a number of plans, including the Annual Action Plan and a Consolidate Plan that is updated every five (5) years. Learn more.
