Home MenuDo Not Flush!
There are items that should never be flushed down the toilet. Non-flushable items cause numerous problems for residents and businesses, and can increase sewer rates. The sewer system is meant for human waste and toilet paper only.
You can help by never flushing certain items:
- Wipes of any kind (baby, toddler, or adult), including the “flushable” kind.
- Tampons, pads, or other feminine products
- Paper towels
- Napkins
- Any paper product other than toilet paper
- Hair
- Cat litter—even the “flushable” kind
- Syringes or needles
- Condoms
- Band-aids
- Dental floss
- Q-Tips and cotton balls
- Diapers
- Prescription medications
- Cosmetics
- Razors
- Gum
- Grease or oil (should not be poured down the sink either)
Another way you can make an impact is through community awareness.
- Be aware of any activity in your community that could harm the sewer system.
- If you smell chemicals or oils coming from the sewer or manholes.
- If you see any suspicious activity near sewer lines or manholes.
- Educate your friends, family, and neighbors about the sewer system and what belongs in it.
- Report any overflows to the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Your actions make the difference in our community and our environment! Thank you for your help!
