The City of Caldwell has an opening for a Plans Examiner I or a Plans Examiner II   with the Building Department.  Plans Examiner I performs inspections and plan reviews to ensure compliance with the International Building, Mechanical and Fire codes, ensures compliance with state and local codes and ordinances; serves as a project leader on the Development Team; and performs related work as required. Plans Examiner II Reviews commercial and residential construction plans to ensure compliance with the International Building and Fire code, State, and Local codes and ordinances; performs related work as required. Either must possess good interpersonal skills and have the ability to communicate with other City employees and the public. Subject to pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Plans Examiner I – Required Education & Training (Pay Grade 8):

• High School Diploma or GED; and
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a plan's examiner on residential and commercial projects and permit processing for a public entity; and
• Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
• Possession of a current and valid driver’s license.
• Ability to become an I.C.C. Certified Residential Plans Examiner within 6 months of employment.

Plans Examiner II – Required Education & Training (Pay Grade 9):

• High School Diploma or GED; and
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Plans Examiner on commercial and industrial projects and permit processing for a public entity; and
• Any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.
• Possession of a current and valid driver’s license; and
• I.C.C. Building Inspector Certification; and
• I.C.C. Certified Commercial Plans Examiner or I.C.C. Certified Building Plans Examiner.
