Planner I, II or III-Planning & Zoning

The City of Caldwell has an opening for a Planner I, Planner II or Planner III with the Planning & Zoning Department.  Planner I serves as the entry-level professional planner and performs a variety of technical and administrative planning and zoning work involving zoning ordinances.  Planner II is the mid-level professional planner that performs moderate to advance technical and administrative planning work for current and long-range planning.  Planner III serves as the non-supervisory senior-level professional planner and performs advanced professional and technical planning work for current and long-range planning; serves as a team lead on various projects; and assists in the implementation of training and mentoring of lower-level staff.  All professional planners must possess good interpersonal skills and have the ability to effectively communicate with other City employees and the general public. Subject to pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Planner I – Education & Training:

  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in planning, community development, economic development or closely related field; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, landscape architecture, community development, architecture, geography, or closely related field.
  • Occasional evening work is required to attend public hearings or as job duties demand.

Planner II - Education & Training:

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in planning, community development, economic development or closely related field; OR
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in planning, community development, economic development or closely related field and AICP certification; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, landscape architecture, community development, architecture, or closely related field plus three (3) years’ experience (two years’ experience with AICP certification) in the planning profession or closely related field; OR
  • Master’s degree in planning, landscape architecture, community development, architecture, or closely related field with one (1) year experience in the planning profession or closely related field.
  • Occasional evening work is required to attend public hearings or as job duties demand. 

Planner III - Education & Training: 

  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in planning, community development, economic development or closely related field; OR
  • Minimum of six (6) years’ experience in planning, community development, economic development or closely related field and AICP certification; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, landscape architecture, community development, architecture, or closely related field plus four (4) years’ experience (three years’ experience with AICP certification) in the planning profession or closely related field; OR
  • Master’s degree in planning, landscape architecture, community development, architecture, or closely related field with two (2) years’ experience in the planning profession or closely related field.
  • Occasional evening work is required to attend public hearings or as job duties demand.

Planner I- Pay Grade 6 $22.30-$25.34 Hourly (DOE, DOQ)

Planner II- Pay Grade 8 $26.98-$30.66 Hourly (DOE, DOQ) 

Planner III- Pay Grade 9 $29.68-$33.73 Hourly (DOE, DOQ)
